The insertion of an attic makes the most of the apartment’s tall ceilings as well as provides ample space for the family.
The living room is full of furniture from Chris’s company, Isokon Plus, including the cabinet, the side table, and the Loop coffee table, a recent design by Barber & Osgerby. The sofa is from Swedese.
Cedar wood seamlessly extends from inside to outside, creating a continuous extension to the woods beyond.   Adirondack chairs provide the perfect viewing point from the balcony.
Circa-1940s documents that were filed with the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety credit William H. Thomas, who was a very close friend of graphic designer Alvin Lustig, as the house’s “certified architect.” After extensive research conducted by the home’s previous owner, Andy Hackman, the house’s current owner, Andrew Romano, believes the structure was in fact Lustig’s own design.
