Tree House

FORWARD Design | Architecture was hired to add enlarge a second-floor bedroom and add a screen porch and deck below. This project included several challenges, beginning with the 70’ drop across the site of the existing house. There was also little room to get equipment and materials to the rear of the house to be able to perform the necessary work. It was important to the homeowner to strike a balance of
contemporary design within what is primarily a traditional house, so our detailing worked to support that dialogue. The newly enlarged room acts as a home office, with integrated cabinets and custom integral pulls in the Shaker-style doors. A corner window features a bench for reading and provides views to the Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza in winter and lush treetops in summer.
