The Sauna House

The client requested a modern, contemporary sauna house that worked within the existing context of a more traditional style home. To accomplish this, the modern form of the sauna house is wrapped in the cedar shakes that are also used on the house - tying them both together but allowing a new interpretation of the style of the structure. The flat roof keeps the views from the house to the mountains from being blocked by this new structure. The addition of a secondary covered outdoor living space with a gas fire makes a beautiful focal point across the pool as well as an area that opens up to the basement outdoor living area to allow a space for overflow when entertaining. In the sauna house, the sauna room and the cold plunge pool are oriented to frame the view across the property to the mountains. The pool equipment room is in the basement of the sauna house, taking advantage of the overall slope of the property.
