This 1 bedroom studio has a neutral or negative carbon footprint. By choosing to build our cabin form sustainably sourced mass timber, we ‘removed’ about 6 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere. How? The cabin was built from 3.5 tonnes of timber and 1 Kg of wood is holding about 1.65 to 1.80 Kg of CO2. This totals to 5.8-6.3 tonnes of carbon absorbed from the atmosphere.

Buildings made of timber act like carbon sinks, ‘removing’ carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. By weight, wood is mainly made up of water and carbon, and when trees are growing they use photosynthesis to bind around one tonne of carbon dioxide per cubic metre of wood while also releasing oxygen into the air. For every timber house, many tonnes of carbon can be stored, significantly reducing the amount found in the atmosphere.
