My name is Emily Evans, I’m an interior designer based on the on the Surfcoast of Victoria, Australia and run my own business, The Simple Collective.
I’d like to introduce you to a project that is very near and dear to us, ‘Casita M’- a mid-century Spanish Colonial-inspired home in Torquay, VIC. This is our family home which we designed and built with JK Powell Constructions back in Dec 2020. It’s been a labour of love over the years and we were lucky enough to capture some imagery with photographer Tasha Tylee last month and are keen to share with the design community.
The architecture and interior design of this home has been influenced by my upbringing in Southern California (I’m originally from San Diego). The flat-roof design and modernist brick lattice feature wall externally echoes mid-century architecture whilst internally we’ve incorporated Spanish Colonial Revival features including arched doorways, exposed timber ceiling beams and lime washed walls.
Tactile in its nature, we focused on using natural materials throughout the home. Textured paint, timber, stone, and woven textiles. It’s warm and inviting with lots of character, and has a distinct uniqueness to other homes in the area. The furniture and décor has been carefully sourced by me with most pieces either vintage or second-hand – I love mixing old with new and incorporating pieces that have a history or story to tell.
We have been long-time fans of your platform and would love to be considered for a feature. Please let me know if this is a project Dwell aligns with. Thanks for your time. *See attached imagery - more high res photos available upon request.
