This is a typical 1.940 sq/ft apartment on the first floor of a historical building that was constructed just 19 years after the first residential building in São Paulo.

The apartment, overlooking the treetops, was renovated in 2021 by its owner and architect, Lia Soares, for her family that includes her husband and two children who are 11 and 8 years old. It is located in Higienópolis, close to universities, museums, parks and the city center in Latin America's largest business and cultural hub. Despite this however, the neighbourhood offers a quiet community feel, where convenience stores and parks are within walking distance.

The unit had never been renovated before and the work was completed with minimal environmental impact as a key design principle. The slate floor was maintained in the kitchen, which received demolition wood cabinets, and is integrated into the living room. In the bathrooms, the coverings were replaced with very clean looking national marble. The old windows and arches remained and most of the furniture is family heirlooms.

In addition, the double bed was designed by Gregorio, Lia's husband, surfboard designer and shaper. The television stand, which divides the hallway, allows light to permeate the corridor which leads to the bedrooms. The children's desks, the kitchen cupboards and cabinets, were designed to the smallest detail by Lia.
