Private Retreat in Heart of North Berkeley
The home at 816 San Luis Road was built as the dream home for the original owners. It was completed in 1973 as a 4-bedroom, 2.5 bath home with a family room, workshop and plus spaces below.
In 1971, decided to build a dream home. They searched for a property with a view and found this piece of property in the Berkeley Hills with this expansive view. They enlisted the support of Sally Bould Stan to help with the design. Sally Bould Stan is included in the International Archive of Women in Architecture. Her legacy was 1,500 to 2,000 projects, mainly ranch houses, in the Lafayette area and Oakland hills in the East Bay. Currently, the archives hold 75 projects she personally picked out. First time on the market, 816 San Luis is a quintessential Berkeley home hidden from the street by an enclosed magical garden. From the moment you open the door and see the expansive views of the Bay, SF and the Golden Gate Bridge to the shingle siding, you'll know just how unique and special this home is. Included: a 2-car garage, an in-law unit with separate entrance, a fireplace, multi-level decks to catch the sunsets and much more.
If location is everything in real estate, then the original owners found the dream location.
