The Award-Winning Byrne Residence Is Back on the Market for $1.65M
Internationally recognized and extensively published, the Byrne Residence is a distinctive desert home by Phoenix-based architect Will Bruder. The celebrated architect designed the home in 1998, incorporating dramatic lines and materials inspired by the surrounding landscape.
The architect’s website describes the home as "a series of abstract canyon walls and spaces that emerge as metaphoric geological gestures from its steep south-facing desert site." The description goes on to state how "the structure’s angular geometry grows from the asymmetrical, tapering alignment of a canyon. The purple/black patinaed copper, acid-etched galvanized metal–clad frame-well, and fascia elements complement the undisturbed Sonoran desert surround."
An offset steel roof caps the two-level residence, while rich copper panels add warmth to the exterior facade. Inside, windows wrap around the 3,200-square-foot layout, framing panoramic views of Sonoran vistas. A single, sloping masonry brick wall punctures the ceiling, which opens up into a long, narrow skylight.
From 2013 to 2018, the four-bedroom dwelling underwent a meticulous restoration by its current owners, who consulted with Bruder to ensure that the integrity of his design was maintained throughout the process. The landscape has also been embellished in recent years with additional native texture, subtle lighting, and footpaths to encourage exploration. The Byrne Residence, located at 8915 E. Jack Neville Drive in Scottsdale, Arizona, is currently listed for $1,649,000.00 by Scott Jarson and Debbie Jarson of azarchitecture/Jarson & Jarson Real Estate.
