Outdoor seating helps make the deck and the living room on the other side of the movable glass feel like one combined space.

The wood slats were Fell’s idea, which Eric immediately jumped on. Depending on the angle, they provide a degree of privacy and shade, not to mention giving the home its attention-grabbing facade. Eric and his girlfriend relax on the balcony’s all-weather furniture by Ebel. Cedar trim and stairs add some contrasting color.

A tall brick wall borders the historic two-story residence, creating a tranquil city escape.

A paved, tree-lined driveway leads to the newly constructed home, which sits perched above sprawling vineyards and open space.

Operable floor-to-ceiling glass doors slide into pockets to open the entire great room—including living and dining areas—to the outdoors. “This allows the line between indoor and out to blur, inviting in summer breezes and fresh air,” says architect Meelena Oleksiuk Turkel.

Turkel Design prioritized the use of sustainable materials to create the bespoke prefab home. A dramatic cross-laminated timber (CLT) cantilever, for example, juts beyond the edge of the garage door. The panelized components—including the structure and shell of the garage and home home—are crafted from domestic engineered wood products that result in a straighter, tighter building.

Set on a steel frame and reached by a bridge, the master suite extends up to 13 feet above the sloping grade.

Continuing the progression, an ascent past a green wall and other layered plantings brings residents and visitors to the front entry, where the Fleetwood pivot door invites first glimpses into the home.

Ushered in by the gently curving retaining walls and grounding concrete garage, entry into the home is a carefully curated progressive experience.

The home floats gracefully over the landscape, with pine Shou Sugi Ban siding from Delta Millworks cladding the exterior — the dark ebony hue intentionally chosen to help it blend in with nature.
